Despite being classified as a toy breed, these dogs are terrier through & through. Bred for ratting they are still fit for purpose.
However English Toy Terriers also love a cuddle & snuggling under blankets.
They are generally not fond of mud & water (although there are exceptions), and their coat is very easy to wipe down.
On walks they are very active, & once in open fields they love zoomies especially if they have a pal to chase. They have an afinity with sighthounds as they have both whippet & Italian Greyhound amongst their very distant ancestors.
Sadly there are less than 100 ETTs registered at the Royal Kennel Club every year, indeed in 2022 there were just 64. It would be a tragedy if this precious native breed were to be lost. English Toy Terriers are one of, if not the oldest British & Irish native Toy breed.
