The DandyTweed kennel is dedicated to Marian's grandmother Daisy Clara Moss nee Tweed (1919-2007) and Margaret's father Leonard Tweed (1926-2001) who grew up together at their family home in Islington (pictured). They lived in this tiny terraced house with their parents and 8 siblings and their beloved Miniature Black & Tan Terriers.
Daisy is recorded showing her own dogs as a teenager in the early Crufts catalogues alongside her father Thomas & oldest brother Tom. It is Marian's belief that Daisy was named after an early Tweed Black & Tan called "Daisybelle" born in 1893 whose lines continue today in the DandyTweed kennel. Crufts was also the venue for a family romance - Daisy met her husband Ted there.
A very warm and intelligent woman, Daisy was much loved by all the family and is still greatly missed. She took the utmost care of her family & the many animals that the family owned over the years. She is particularly remembered for her marathon tea-making at the regular family gatherings.
No. 1 William Street (now Allingham Street)
Len (pictured here with Dandy Rose, a Crufts winning Miniature Black & Tan Terrier belonging to his Uncle Bill) was besotted with the breed from a young age as you can see from this photo.
He was a favourite with all the family and particularly close to his big sister Daisy throughout his life, always there to lend her support especially after she lost her husband Ted in 1983. He had a special relationship with Marian's father Eddie and when it was decided that Eddie should join the scouts to try to keep him out of trouble Len also became actively involved in the scouting movement as a leader.. He & his wife Joan took the scouts camping on a regular basis.
He also contributed much time & effort to the charity Nerve Tumours UK (then known as The Neurofibromatosis Association), which raises funds to research the disease Neurofibromatosis and to provide medical & non-medical support to those who live with it (whose number include a much loved Tweed family member).
